Concert Infrastructure acquires full ownership of P3SB2 Schools Project

June 2, 2025, Vancouver, BC — Concert Infrastructure Fund (CIF) has acquired Bird Capital Limited Partnership's 20% interest in Concert-Bird Partners—the equity concession of the Alberta P3 Schools Bundle (P3SB2)—giving CIF full ownership of the public-private partnership (P3) concession. The project was originally procured under the Design Build Finance Maintain (DBFM) model for the design, construction, financing and ongoing maintenance of five high schools in Alberta.

"This acquisition aligns with our long-term strategy to invest in essential public infrastructure, acquire secondary interests and manage these assets through their full lifecycle," says Derron Bain, CEO, Concert Infrastructure. "We are proud to be a trusted partner to the Government of Alberta and remain committed throughout the full term of this concession as a long-term investor on behalf of our Canadian union and management pension plan unitholders.”

Construction of the project was completed in May 2024, on time and on budget, providing a new space for more than 6,900 students. The schools are located in Leduc, Blackfalds, Langdon and two sites in Edmonton.

Designed and built using sustainable practices and energy-efficient systems, each school is poised to achieve LEED Silver Certification, aligning with CIF’s commitment to sustainability and responsible investment. In support of Alberta's educational modernization, the schools incorporate collaborative, tech-enabled spaces that foster 21st-century teaching and learning to inspire students and educators alike.

The Project gained recognition even before completion, receiving the 2022 Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnership “Project Development – Gold” award, the 2022 P3 Awards’ “Best Education and High Education Project” award as well as the 2024 Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnership “P3 Design & Construction – Silver” award.

Under the existing Maintenance and Renewal Contract, Ainsworth continues to provide day-to-day facilities management services for the project, with the dedicated support of CIF.
